I would say I am very much a dabbler. I do enjoy running; I have recently started enjoying climbing; I've been trying ceramics for the first time after a brief attempt five years ago; I've done some woodworking; so lots of making and moving.
Nora’s Music Playlist:
“March 2025”
Hello Nora, how are you today?
I'm doing well. Thank you.
How does it feel to get hundreds of photos taken of you within a few minutes?
Exciting that it's quick and creative. I’m a little nervous have photos taken, but cool to be able to do it in such a casual, fast, fun way.
Where are you from?
I am from the suburbs of Chicago.
Do you like to travel?
I love to travel, yes.
Is there a favorite place you've been and or a dream destination?
I got to spend a few days with a friend who lives in Berlin and I would love to spend more time there, but I do love theater and so London has always been a really exciting place for me to go, because their theater scene is incredible.
Are there any other hobbies, things you love, generally speaking, broadly speaking?
I would say I am very much a dabbler. I do enjoy running; I have recently started enjoying climbing; I've been trying ceramics for the first time after a brief attempt five years ago; I've done some woodworking; so lots of making and moving.
Have you tried a hobby where you're just like, yeah this is not for me?
I've definitely gone through phases of maybe interest in hobbies. I don't know that I've done many that I just decided to jump out on. I take breaks from a lot of them. I've done bowling leagues a few times and right now I'm not in a bowling league season, but I enjoy those. Woodworking is something I love, but it's not something I can do at home, so it sometimes is a little more of a chore to find a place to do it, find the resources, the teaching, and I gotta take breaks from that sometimes.
I feel like everyone's kind of doing a dozen different side hustles these days, myself included. Have you ever found a hobby where you're like, I could make money doing this?
Maybe people have told me that, but I don't want to. (Laughs)
Why not?
One, I don't think I have the motivation to be doing that much in one of my particular hobbies, just because I like to — my life is full of a lot of other things, and I wouldn't be able to keep dabbling if I tried to turn things into a business right now, at least while I work a full-time job that's unrelated to any of those things.
Would you say your job relates to any of your hobbies at all or is it completely separate in that regard?
I think it's related in a lot of ways. I work in tech as a digital accessibility specialist and designer, and so I think a lot of that creative thinking comes in. It is more of a problem solving in a lot of ways when I'm thinking about code, but I work very closely with designers and I feel like a lot of my hobbies are are me getting to enjoy design in the tactile and tangible way, which is a really great break for me after working on screens.
Talk about what you love about music, and who you love within music.
I've actually been trying to branch out. I am kind of an obsessive music listener when I find something I like, I'll listen to it over and over, and I've been working on making monthly playlists for the last few years for myself that are just reminding me to kind of branch out to either new music or old music I haven't heard in a long time. I've always liked Bob Dylan; last year I loved Billie Eilish's album; I love dancing and I usually like going out dancing, but anything I can like move to at home is very fun.
And I love singing along to things. I will say I'm a musical theater person — I don't listen to it much, though. Pop, rock, indie rock, some country, I’m kind of finding my way in that right now. So, yeah.
Favorite place in Chicago to catch a show or dance to music?
I love Thalia Hall for shows, or Schubas if I'm kind of going in with no idea what I'm doing and I just wanna pay twenty dollars for a ticket somewhere that night.
Anything else you wanna end with?
I don't have anything top of mind right now... I have a chihuahua named Potato! (Laughs)
I appreciate your time.
Thank you very much.
